About this listen
"Trust dies but mistrust blossoms."
After burying her father, Fiona Chalfant is left with a choice: keep the run-down ranch or sell it and move on. With nowhere else to go, she hires Lance Dalton to be her foreman; he has a young son, and needs the work. Working together to rejuvenate the property, they are unaware one of the workers hired could be a dangerous man.
Things go smoothly and Lance and Fiona begin to fall in love. Life seems perfect until the child mysteriously disappears, then Fiona. Who is out to hurt them and why?

Wonderful story!
Fiona has inherited her father's ranch. The ranch is rundown and too much for her to handle alone, so with the advice of her pastor, she puts an ad out for help. Lance answers the ad, but Fiona is still a little hesitant to have someone stay on the ranch with her. After all, she is a woman alone. Lance has a son though, and she figures the care of his son ads to his character and she hires him. As they work together, and feelings begin to grown, Lance's son disappears. Where could he have gone? With the disappearance of one of the hands, there is a good indication of who took him but why? And now Fiona is gone too! Barbara Goss always gives a good story with suspense, faith and a good message. This book is no exception. I always tell her, she cleanses my brain and makes me heart sing with her stories. I enjoyed this one especially. Another wonderful listen.
Jeff Moon is the narrator and his voice is perfect for western, historical romance. He has a great variety of voices, easy to distinguish and pulls out each emotion. He builds the suspense and kept me wanting to hear more. He was a pleasure to listen to.
