About this listen

Captured by a king of darkness. Forced to find the light within.

Arwen Valondale never expected to be the brave one, offering her life to save her brother's. Now she's been taken prisoner by the most dangerous kingdom on the continent, and made to use her rare magical abilities to heal the soldiers of the vicious Onyx King.

Arwen knows better than to face the ancient, wicked woods that surround the castle on her own, which means working with a fellow prisoner might be her only path to freedom. Unfortunately, he's as infuriating as he is cunning-and seems to take twisted pleasure in playing on Arwen's deepest fears.

But here in Onyx Kingdom, trust is a luxury she can't afford.

Not sure on this but the ending may persuade me to carry on

I have very mixed feelings on this story! First of all I think Arwen is the worst FMC I’ve ever read! I just couldn’t warm to her. I also struggled with Cain until I read the bonus chapter at the end. I feel like the series has promise but it didn’t seem to flow right in this book & some of it felt really random & not relevant. I wanted to speed it up to get to some good parts. Hopefully the next book will be better as the books have good reviews!

Sizzling enemies to lovers

4.7 stars for this lush and seductive romance fantasy. Highly recommend for those seeking slow-burn romance, dazzling characters, interesting magic, warring kingdoms and a beautifully written, thrilling and unique story!

Good story - OK writing

The story line is good!
But the writing is lacking a bit. A lot of tell not show. And emotion or realization that conveniently just happen. And missing details that may be unimportant but make the writing inconsistent or lacking. It’s giving first-book vibe.
A very good performance from the reader tho !

Good book

Overall, I enjoyed the story. It was easy to listen to and was a great foundation for the rest of the series.

I would’ve liked to have had a duet narration rather than the majority being done by the female narrator and Joe Arden coming in at the end.

boring and predictable

I didn't like how the narrator pronounced every ing link ink. I also thought the story was a bit cliché. I couldn't sympathise with the characters, the emotions just didn't come across as they were supposed to. I won't get the next part.
