Summary

'Satisfyingly intriguing' Faith Martin

'J.M. Hall has mastered the warmth of a perfect modern cosy crime with all the twists and turns that go with it. I really enjoyed it!' Hannah Hendy

Retired schoolteachers and amateur sleuths Liz, Pat and Thelma are giving up their coffee morning for a brand-new mystery.

Retired teachers Pat, Liz and Thelma are happiest whiling away their hours over coffee, cake and chat at the Thirsk Garden Centre café.

But when their good friend tells them about an unsettling experience she had in a sinister-feeling charity shop, they simply can’t resist investigating…

Because the entire shop has vanished into thin air.

Before long, our trio of unlikely sleuths find themselves embroiled in a race against the clock to get to the bottom of this mystery – but who has a secret to hide and how far will they go to keep it concealed?

Only time will tell…

Another Good Story

I enjoyed this although it was a little bit more predictable than the other two. But I still enjoyed it

thoroughly enjoyable

I'm really growing to like these 3 main characters as the series goes on. A nice enjoyable, easy read.

Jarring in places

Here’s my problem. I’ve listened to all three books and I like them a lot. The trouble is one of the main characters (Thelma) accent has changed even though it’s the same narrator. It’s gone from a Yorkshire-ish accent in the first two books to a posh and proper one. When you listen to all of the books back to back it’s so noticeable it’s jarring. It’s the same narrator, so I don’t know how this is happened It’s such a shame because apart from this, I think the narrator is really good. It’s just difficult to get past it.
I recommend if you are listening to all of the books you leave a big gap between book 2 and book 3. Hopefully this will solve the problem
Also unlike the first two, this book contains quite a bit of swearing so not suitable for listening to when there are young ones around

Nice to meet the trio again

The book was read brilliantly but I did find some of the linking between scenes a little confusing . The story on the whole was good but a little convoluted

This book is an absolute joy!

3rd book in the crime lives of Pat, Liz & Thelma, 1st book was wonderful, but sadly 2nd book I didn't enjoy as much but this book the characters personalities are now more rounded and defined so my enjoyment was heightened. Even better then book 1 and show's J.M Hall developing his offering to the reader/listener.
J.M Hall's writing paints a picture in your mind of these characters without overdoing the detail so it allows your mind to create Pat, Liz & Thelma plus their family.
With Julie Hesmondhalgh as narrator & J.M Hall's writing they go together like Apple Crumble & Custard. Long may that continue. Bravo!
