Summary

Scrooge! His name has become synonymous with being miserly and miserable, especially at Christmas! A Christmas Carol is the much-loved novella by Charles Dickens which tells Scrooge's story. This mean, misanthropic man is visited by the ghost of his former partner, Jacob Marley, and then three spirits: the ghosts of Christmas Past, of Christmas Present, and of Christmas Yet to Come. These spirits show him visions that illustrate how his selfish attitude and behavior affect the people in his circle of friends and family. Further, he's shown how and why his own life has been affected in the past.

In this version, the memorable characters of this timeless classic are skillfully brought to life and the unaffected, clear narrative delivers Charles Dickens' prose with an intimate performance of clarity and accessibility.

Characters brought to life

A wonderful telling of this Christmas story. Chris MacDonnell brings the characters wonderfully to life - his voice is just perfect to conjure up pictures, and make you feel you are watching a film, not listening to an audio book.

Funnily enough I've never actually read this book, but now I feel I really know the characters, and loved the story. At only 3 hours long, it would be perfect to listen to in instalments whilst doing Christmas preparations. I shall certainly listen to it again in future years.

So good I've already downloaded another audio book with the same narrator - can't wait to see how he brings that one to life.
