About this listen

'One of the greatest crime writers of our times' DENISE MINA
'No one does atmospheric quite like Louise Penny' ELLY GRIFFITHS

There is more to solving a crime than following the clues.
Welcome to Chief Inspector Gamache's world of facts and feelings.

The air is unbearably tense as Armand Gamache returns to work since being demoted from its command to head of homicide. Amid blistering personal social media attacks, Gamache sets out on his first assignment. He has been tasked with finding a missing woman, but while he leads the search for Vivienne Godin, his home of Three Pines itself is threatened when the river breaks its banks, and an emergency is declared.

As the waters rise, a body is discovered - and the victim's distraught father contemplates revenge. Gamache is a father himself, and is haunted by a question . . . what would he do, if his child's killer might walk free?

Millions of fans worldwide.
One inimitable Chief Inspector Gamache.

Louise Penny at her best as always.

In my mind , Three Pines actually exists as do the characters that inhabit the village. I would love to meet Chief Inspector, Gamache, his family and friends. The personalities are real. The storylines amazing. I could go on .......and Robert Bathurst as narrator brings the whole thing alive. Will there be another in this series? I hope so.

Brilliant!

To read about Three Pines is like coming home...Penny manages to bring out new sides to the characters we think we know so well.

So good

This had me close to tears several times. Fighting against the elements, the criminals and determining who were friends and who were foes. The river and storms were so descriptive. I’ve just loved this series, mostly. And now I’m returned to the position of longing to know what happens next but dreading them being out of my life, so real do they appear. On to ( currently, January 2021)the last, but hoping there will be another.

Excellent listen!

I can only wonder at the skill of writer, Louise Penny. A story full of twists and turns. Proving a plethora of emotions.
The characters are all brought to life by the narrator, Adam Simms.

Outstanding

Another fabulous book from LOUISE PENNY.
The story kept me hooked and thinking and plotting to the end. I am sad I will have to wait a while to re enter the world of three pines.
I enjoy all the characters so very much.
Best yet.

A Better Man

Another good story, still amazed how much trouble Gamache can get into and still keep his job.
Enjoyed the storyline and thought it was well worked out. Good to get some different people involved. Thought the storyline of the abuse was handled well and given a lot of thought.
Moving on to the next one now.

Disappointing

I’m a huge fan of the Inspector Gamache novels but this is a very poor addition to the series. The plot is clunky and the revelation at the end simply does not fit the ‘evidence’ presented or credibility. It’s as if the author decided to write an ending for a different plot and papered over the cracks with the thinnest of explanations. It felt like a mess of a plot in the end

Nowhere near her best in this series. Way too Agat

Nowhere near her best in this wonderful series. Too much like Agatha Christie. I had the culprit half way through and way to easily. Also, give the original narrator... he performed all the principal characters far better and with more intimacy
