Summary
The collected BBC radio productions of the major works of Oscar Wilde, plus bonus play by Neil Bartlett.
Loved for his flamboyant personality, sparkling wit and brilliant epigrams, Oscar Wilde was a comic genius and a literary icon.
This collection reflects the many facets of his dazzling talent. Here are dramatisations of his only novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, a Gothic tale of a gilded aristocrat who makes a dangerous pact, as well as four scintillating social comedies – Lady Windermere’s Fan, A Woman of No Importance, The Importance of Being Earnest and An Ideal Husband. Among the distinguished casts are Ian MacDiarmid, Joely Richardson, Edward Fox, Diana Rigg, Martin Clunes, Michael Hordern and Judi Dench.
Moving examples of his correspondence are revealed in The Letters of Oscar Wilde and De Profundis, read by Simon Callow and Simon Russell Beale respectively, and his most famous poem, The Ballad of Reading Gaol, is performed live by stars including Ian McKellen, Neil Tennant and Stephen Fry.
In addition, a bonus drama, In Extremis by Neil Bartlett, starring Corin Redgrave and Sheila Hancock, reimagines Oscar Wilde's hastily arranged sitting with a society palm reader, a week before the trial that would cost him so dearly.

Superb in every way.
I've been a fan of his work for years and read several books, but this was a fantastic way to bring to life the works and life of the man.

Absolutely wonderful
Beautiful and moving. Made me hear his work in a new way. Acting all superb. The reading and new play at the end concluded it all perfectly. Really one of the best BBC Collections.

Enjoyable
I really enjoyed the story telling. I don’t often listen to radio plays so I wasn’t sure what to expect and it was a bit overdone at times, which you could only get away with, with Wilde’s works. I didn’t feel like an audiobook but it was very engaging,

Great
I’m a fan of his work so I knew I would like this. What I wasn’t expecting is the heartbreaking letters, and after.

A Fabulous Introduction To Oscar Wilde
This collection of the "best"of Oscar Wilde starts with an excellent dramatisation of "The Picture Of Dorian Gray".We then get a superb collection of his main plays. However, for me it was the recordings of "The Ballad Of Reading Goal" and "De Profundis" ,that brought home the real tragedy of life.

Brilliant!
I really enjoyed this audiobook. I’ve only ever seen The Importance of Being Earnest and An Ideal Husband before, which I loved, But all of these plays were fantastic. Wonderful actors giving wonderful performances. I especially liked the extra performances; De Profundis was truly heartbreaking.

Excellent BBC Radio Drama of Oscar Wilde Books
Like all BBC drama, this too is excellent and very good value for money through Audible. The only negative comment is that in this Audible version, the dramas are not categorised by their name, but only through chapter headings like Chapter 1, Chapter 2 etc. Several chapters belong to one drama, but there is no way of finding out without listening. Furthermore, chapter durations are widely varying. This is a meaningless categorisation and something quite easy to fix, for example, by just adding the name of the drama before chapter.
