About this listen
All seems well for Jo Packwood. After all, she's a household name in marine biology. But behind the façade, Jo is in pain; reeling from childhood issues; the lost of her father, a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars; and now her mother, who is slowly being taken away by Alzheimer's.
But life soon changes when she decides to summit the Pacific Northwest's Mount Olympia, the highest, deadliest peak in North America. Cresting at 17,000 feet, it is the same mountain that claimed her father in a historic avalanche.
Accompanied by her father's younger brother, and equipped with painful memories and her parents' keepsakes, Jo sets off on a journey of emancipation.
At every elevation gain, emotions get heavier. At every dip in the oxygen level, the muddled past gets clearer. She soon discovers that in the wilderness, the elements are the least of her worries.
