Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
Insects are essential for life as we know it. As they become more scarce, our world will slowly grind to a halt; we simply cannot function without them. Drawing on the latest groundbreaking research and a lifetime's study, Dave Goulson reveals the shocking decline of insect populations that has taken place in recent decades, with potentially catastrophic consequences. He passionately argues that we must all learn to love, respect and care for our six-legged friends.
Eye-opening, inspiring and riveting, Silent Earth is part love letter to the insect world, part elegy, part rousing manifesto for a greener planet. It is a call to arms for profound change at every level - in government policy, agriculture, industry and in our own homes and gardens. Although time is running out, it is not yet too late for insect populations to recover. We may feel helpless in the face of many of the environmental issues that loom on our horizon, but Goulson shows us that we can all take simple steps to encourage insects and counter their destruction.

Dave Goulson deserves a medal for this book…or at least deserves our Gov. to listen !
Incredible, but not an easy listen, I spent most of the time feeling desperate, sad, hysterical, ashamed, furious and frustrated.
Dave doesn’t hold back, this book tells the raw and horrific truth of what we ie us humans are doing to our planet, we are on the cusp …if we don’t change our behaviour we are doomed! Yet Dave makes clear guidance to how we can atone, how we can heel our planet and give ourselves a future in harmony with our wildlife. Action is needed, change is needed. Bravo Dave Goulson you are a bloody hero! I have started my own mini campaigns and made changes at home etc I hope more join in…. Highly recommended…it’s a must read, must take action

A must listen/read
This is both terrifying and enlightening. A highly educational work about what we have been doing wrong, filled with practical solutions on how we can all contribute to putting things right. We are not powerless in climate change we can all make a difference.

Excellent
A pleasure to listen to but quite disturbing to realise what has already happened to our world. This book has opened my eyes to the importance of insects, and their fantastic abilities. It has inspired me to do my bit to help stop the decline. Highly recommended.

A book for everyone about our beautiful planet.
It tells us what we did wrong but much more importantly what we can do to recover biodiversity. One of the best books I have read, bringing clarity and common sense to environmental issues. Easy to understand and wonderfully read by the author.

Scientific and fascinating
A brilliant book which breaks down the data and the science about biodiversity decline and the probable causes. Goulson then gives us some really hopeful and interesting ways to solve the problems we face, both as an individual and as a nation/species. I also enjoyed the interesting insect interludes between chapters. I will be recommending this to friends and family for a while.

More than I hoped for
Thoroughly enjoyed this audio book, it was so much more than I had hoped for, I was in search of more information about wildlife and the natural world to support my growing perception of the world we live in and understand more of our disconnection with it. Not only does this book have general info about insects and life, it asks questions, suggestions possible actions and paints a picture of what the world might become... loved it!

Needs a wide audience, well read
This book contains an important message along with some quirky facts. It is well-read by the author. I am encouraged to do more myself to improve biodiversity and hope others will too. Excellent recommendations at the end based on the excellent, if a bit depressing, info given all the way through the book.
