About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin
For seven unsuspecting victims, death comes in the dark....
Once a luxurious getaway for a wealthy Southern family, the Summer House in rural Sullivan, Georgia, has long since fallen into disrepair and become a decaying rental property. But now it is also the scene of an horrific mass murder.
Shocking evidence points to four Army Rangers recently returned from Afghanistan. To ensure that justice is done, the Army sends Major Jeremiah Cook, a war veteran and former NYPD cop, to investigate. But Cook and his team are hindered at every turn by local law enforcement, who resists the Army's intrusion.
As Cook and his squad struggle to put together pieces of evidence that just won't fit, powerful forces rally against them to try to ensure that damning secrets die alongside the victims in the Summer House.

Smart political thriller
My first James Patterson + Brendan DuBois book, pleasantly surprised by a tight well plotted thriller of this genre. Some minor characters appear and disappear as convenient to the plot but pacing means you are kept engaged and of course as always beautifully read by Aria Fliakos

Entertaining
Although a little predictable this did keep my attention for the whole way. The characters were believable and the story was fast paced and strong.
I enjoyed it and would read another book by this author.

Fast paced, intriguing and excellent narration
This is my first James Patterson audio book and I was expecting something really good. I was not disappointed. Very well paced throughout, it really kept you thinking and second guessing. I also really enjoyed the narration. All too often poor narration can spoil a perfectly good book, so I was relieved that it was of the same high quality as the book itself. I thoroughly recommend this audio book and look forward to another from this author.

The story waffles a bit. Good Nrration
I enjoyed this story but boy did it drag on. It could have been more enjoyable if it didn't feel bulked out with waffle. Having said that, the story plot was excellent but it was hard to keep up because of all the needless bits.
Aria Fliakos did a good job with the narration, the reading was clear and concise. At times it was hard to follow which character was at the forefront due to the characters voices were not easily identified,

Great performance, predicable story
The narrator was excellent but story was too predicable with a real slump towards the finale

it was alright
the story is quite compelling, some very interesting and shocking moments but at the same time it felt drawn out and there are chapters that could have been left out. But overall it was still a decent book.
