Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

What happens when you have an accidental baby on your own in your mid-30s?

The Hungover Games is the true story of one woman’s adventures in single-motherhood. It’s about what happens when Mr Right isn’t around, so you have a baby with Mr Wrong, a musician who tells you halfway through your pregnancy that he’s met someone else - just after you’ve given up your LA life and moved back to England to be with him, so you’re now six months up the duff and sleeping on a friend’s sofa in an art studio in Dalston.

It’s about what it’s like raising a baby on your own when you feel more at home on the dance floor than in the kitchen. It’s about how to invent the concept of a two-person family, when you grew up in a traditional nuclear unit and your kid’s friends all have happily married parents, too, and you are definitely not, in any way, ticking off the days until all those lovely couples get divorced.

Brilliantly funny, unflinchingly honest and emotionally raw, The Hungover Games is the true story of what happens if you’ve been looking for love your whole life and you finally find it where you least expect it.

‘Unflinching yet comic.’ (Cosmopolitan)

Funny, Witty and so on point!

I absolutely loved this book, it was refreshing and real and resonated with me. Being nearly 40 something single woman trying to fathom a life in this society that still expects us to be a housewife, mother, sister, daughter, colleague without telling the world and everyone in it what we really think. Thanks for the giggles and the pure joy of this piece.

So funny so real, I want more.

I listened to this book over 3 days, it made me laugh so loud. The book was written in a very witty way. The ‘front part’ had me crying with laughter.
If you like books by Dawn O’Porter you will love this book. A must read or listen.

single mum tales

Just not for me, I did struggle to finish (the first time I've had this problem with my Audible choices...)

So well read/performed by the author herself that I could feel the emotion behind her tale, I just didn't care too much.

There are a couple of fun Hollywood/LA recollections but on the whole it was a bit self-indulgent (for me!)

Still, it's very cool to be able to tell your child 'you were conceived in an LA hotel room to an itinerant musician'!

Good. Honest.

This spoke to me about my life. Helped me to examine some of my shame about being a single parent.
