About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
This is wintering. It is the courage to stare down the worst parts of our experience and commit to healing them the best we can.
Wintering, the dormant periods in our lives, the dark moments we endure - which can be brought about through myriad of ways; from the death of a loved one to a sudden change in circumstances or mental health issues - can be lonely and damaging and catch us off guard.
Katherine May recounts her own year-long journey through winter and how she found strength and inspiration when life felt frozen. Part memoir, part exploration of a human condition, Wintering explores the healing nature of the great outdoors to help us overcome and embrace our own wintering experiences and how, much like nature, we can learn to appreciate these low periods, and what they have to teach us, before the ushering in of a new season.

Beautiful book..
I rarely finish a book on audible, I’m not sure why as when I read I never fail to finish a book but this one I devoured. The small moments of life that we all recognize. Really beautiful.

Wintering
A comprehensive twist on so many traditions, experiences, and history of people and animal behaviour. A rack of different traditions all to do with habits of winter. Wintering used as narrative to depression. A relaxing insight to the authors perspectives. The audio felt like a comforting blanket at times.

Wonderfully gentle guide to slow, steady self car
I enjoyed the perspective of the author, not forcing any “must do” ideas but sharing the experience and facts from herself and others through difficult times.
I have recommended this book to others experiencing grief.

not what I expected
this wasn't quite what I expected but I really enjoyed it, part embrace of actual winter and part embrace of a more metaphorical one

Emerging From My Own Winter
Therapist happened to mention this book after hearing me describe my own struggles when I left my job to go abroad, and came back in mental shambles. A healing, gentle perspective is given by the author and an honest humane account of the things we struggle with yet don't or cannot put into words. Katherine May did an excellent job at this. A wholesome, compassionate and quietly courageous read.

worth revisiting
I started listening a few years ago and struggled to get into it but just had a mini winter, struggling with some changes in my life, and it was useful to get back into it. It's so helpful to hear how other people have 'failed', been ill and struggled - I know it's true when I talk to friends but it's so easy to forget when my hypercritical narrative takes off. Good to have that message in audio book form. Thanks for reminding me other people's lives suck too, at points. I hope I will summer sometime the next decade aswell!
