Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The Sunday Times best seller, previously published as Murder Games, now a hit TV series starring Alan Cumming.

Dr Dylan Reinhart is an expert on criminal behaviour. But when his best-selling book is found at a gruesome murder scene, Dylan comes face to face with the real world of crime.

And the killer is expecting him.

Elizabeth Needham, the brilliant NYPD detective leading the case, recruits Dylan to help investigate another clue the killer has left behind - a playing card. Is this the killer's signature? Or will the cards lead them to the next victim, and right into the Dealer's hands?

The Dealer's twisted game will test everything Dylan thought he knew about the criminal mind.

Can Dylan put a stop to the killer before he deals his final card?

Critic reviews

"Not many writers can smash out blockbuster books back-to-back, but one name is leaps and bounds ahead in the juggernaut literature stakes: James Patterson. Known for his lightning-fast plots, cliff-hanger chapters and encyclopaedic crime scene knowledge, James has created the foundations for an unforgettable new drama series." (Mail Online)

Odd ending?

Found some reason the book ends at chapter 99 with all remaining chapters silent?! Other than that I loved it. I never found my mind wandering it held my attention fully. I'm sorry if ended randomly.

Enjoyable thriller with rich characters

First Patterson book I've read and I can already see why his thrillers have gained popularity. The story here is simple enough - a serial killer leaves clues about his next victims with a playing card, so a professor and detective team up to catch him. The strength of the book lies in the characters - the protagonist is well developed with an intriguing background and touching relationship with his partner.

Occasional clichés are my only criticism - why is it that professors in these type of novels always seem to be good friends with the worlds greatest computer hacker? It felt a bit too convenient and didn't really add much to the plot.

The narration was spot on and the book is easy to get in to. I wish it had been a bit longer, I look forward to the follow up.

Not for me

Normally love James Pattersons books so I’m very dispointed I think actually it’s the narrators voice and the way he says he says she says all the time I fell asleep almost every time I played it having to go back continuously normally can’t put down a JP book until I finished it this one just didn’t do it for me .

beyond irritating...

narration of dialogue totally ruined this novel....
After EVERY sentence...She said...I said...Elizabeth said....drove me crazy...think we can follow dialogue to understand WHO is speaking.
dreadful
