Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

When it comes to genes life's a lottery....

As Abi knows - she's spent her life in the shadow of her beautiful, glamorous older sister Cleo. Headhunted as model when she was 16, Cleo has been all but lost to Abi for the last 20 years. So when Abi is invited to spend the summer in Cleo's large London home with her perfect family, she agrees despite serious misgivings. But maybe Cleo is finally as keen as Abi to regain the closeness they shared in their youth?

Abi is in for a shock. Soon she's left caring for her two young, spoilt nieces and handsome, unhappy brother-in-law, while Cleo plainly has other things on her mind. As Abi moves into her sister's life, a cuckoo in the nest, she wrestles with uncomfortable feelings.

Could having beauty, wealth and fame lead to more unhappiness than not having them? Who in the family really is the ugly sister?

Why no last chapter?

Great story arc but nothing tied up at the end. I guess the author wanted us to reach our own conclusions but I found it very frustrating that nothing was tied up. Was she successful in her application for the course? What happened between her and John? What happened to Richard and Stella? Must say though I don’t really care what happened to Cleo ! Maybe planning a follow up? Hope so.

Not her best but still enjoyable

I usually Jane Fallon books, the likeable main character and the easiness of it all but in this book I didn't particularly like anyone. Abi is at tjmes annoying with her whining and being a total pushover and everyone's poor morals got to me. The ending was a total disappointment, I actually thought the app had skipped a couple of chapters it was that abrupt. You have no idea how things ended by anyone which really bothered me. The narration was good and it was easy to listen to.

average

An average story line with an average narration. Nothing to love but nothing to hate. Simplistic and easy to follow.

Ending let’s it down

Really enjoyed the story but it ends abruptly without wrapping everything up which was a bit frustrating!

Different from her usual "revenge" but no real end

I liked this story because it was a different style than Janes normal "revenge" plots.... HOWEVER.... She didn't end it and I have to agree with every other reviewer who said so. There is wanting to leave it to the readers/listeners imaginations and then there is just... not satisfying the desires of that readership. It spent a good 10 hours working up the relationship between her sister and herself and in parts - done well - but a lot dragged and sadly nothing actually changed and nothing actually evolved - it is a really weird one..,.. I'm actually a bit confused as you might be able to tell. I liked the idea and the way it was written and was entertained ...but I was left wanting and not in a good way

10 hours of my life I won’t get back again.

Not up to Jane Fallon’s usual standard. A bit slow and a bit dull but the most disappointing and , frankly, annoying thing about this book was the abrupt ending. Maybe the author was so bored even she couldn’t be bothered to finish it!

Loved the story , gutted about the end

Listening to Jane Fallons stories are like a warm hug from an old friend. I was so enjoying this novel , but the ending was too abrupt and I didn’t see it coming - I’m very sad now
