About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

A gripping, propulsive courtroom thriller following Barrister Lee Mitchell as she uncovers the dark secrets of London's obscenely rich.

Lee Mitchell is a 30-year-old barrister from a working-class Caribbean background: in the cut-throat environment of the courtroom, everything is stacked against her.

After she takes on the high-profile case of notorious millionaire playboy Clive Omartian - arrested along with his father and stepbrother for eye-wateringly exorbitant fraud - the line between her personal and professional life becomes dangerously blurred.

Spiralling further into Clive's trail of debauchery and corruption, she finds herself in alarmingly deep waters.

Can she survive her case, let alone win it?

As a first novel it held my attention to the end

Enjoyed it and admired miss Mitchell in a white, male oriented environment. Good story generally.

Loved it

This book is beautifully narrated and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. It was an incredible insight into the judicial and criminal world through the eyes of a very smart black woman. The narration was brilliant it really brought it to life and I felt like I lived it, every second of it. I read it a long time ago but it came out on audible this week and was even better - finished it in 2 days - Highly recommend.

beautifully written

I absolutely enjoyed this book for many reason, my favourite writer and read by my favourite people. I loved the story and can relate to everything about Pride and dignity as I come from humble beginnings and have and carry on to do and be my best. The story is just exciting and thrilling. Enjoyed the ending . Glad Clive got what he deserved. Thanks

Excellent

This is excellent. So well written. I really enjoyed it. Sad that we’re still struggling with many of these issues.

Gripping to the End

This was a story that held my attention from the start until the end. It was like a jigsaw puzzle of pieces interwoven that created a homogenous whole. Absolutely loved it.

Excellent storyline and narratio.

Author has a great grasp of the law and litigation which is woven seamlessly into a very well crafted story line. The main character's role appears almost autobiogrphical. Well done! This novel is truly 5 out of 5 stars and I wish there were more like this. The narration is excellent. The author is our UK version of Grisham at his best!!!

Excellent listen

Really enjoyed this story and the interwoven characters. I was initially sceptical following the unnecessary lecture at the beginning thinking this was going to be a woke nightmare, but it turned into a good listen
