Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

After narrowly escaping the fall of Rossarb, Princess Catherine leads a ragtag group of survivors into the barren wasteland of the Northern Plateau.

With the Brigantine army snapping at their heels, Edyon and Ambrose become separated from the group, while demon hunter Tash leads Catherine and March to an unlikely refuge - the hidden tunnels of the demon world itself. They soon find that the tunnels hold their own dangers, and, while Tash travels deeper, hoping to learn more about their mysterious inhabitants, Catherine and March must return to the surface to resume the war.

But the world above is in turmoil. King Aloysius' army has captured the Pitorian prince, Tzsayn, and is poised to overrun the whole country. To have any hope of challenging her father's tyranny, Catherine needs to form her own army, but when danger lurks at every turn, how can she tell an ally from an enemy? What Tash discovers in the demon tunnels could change everything, but if the message doesn't reach Catherine in time, the war might already be lost....

Something strange in the narration

OK, I like the story and the whole theme of demons and smoke is interesting.
The narrator for Edyon and March and changed the accent to suddenly make Edyon sound French.
From Chapter 42 onwards there is some very strange editing that sounds like two recordings have been spliced together... badly.
Very disruptive to the listening experience.

Same readers - different speech

So after listening to book 1 "The Smoke Thieves" and reading the excerpt I was pleased to see the same Narrators on book 2 "The Demon World". However, when listening straight away they have changed Edyon's voice and a few others. Which I have to say is very disappointing.

Boring and more boring

It makes no sense. Ambrose and Catherine story? How Catherine suddenly becomes this “strong” woman after an entire upbringing that diminishes women? They get into and out of the demons tunnel with no harm? They had hardly heard of it but, why let’s go under ground and see? Really?
How long it takes for Edyon to get to his father? And for Marsh to open up? Makes absolutely no sense. The potential is so great and yet the story so full of holes.
Why does Catherine’s father “invade” Pritoria to get access to the tunnels? There is NO ONE there anyway? Except the Brigantins who were already forming the smoke with no problem whatsoever? He Allie’s Priotiria but then wages were against them because? So he now wants two wars? Since this is to get to Calidor? I skipped two thirds of the books and will not be reading/listening to the last one.
