巧緻が冴えるホラー短編コレクションの第3話。主人公の武田美登里は48歳になったのを機に、信州にある実家に移り住もうと決心する。三年前に父を、その翌年に母を亡くして以来、実家は空き家になっていた。都内で看護師をしてきた美登里は独身で子供もなく、手術室所属の激務に疲れたせいもあり、郷里に帰って訪問看護の仕事をはじめようと考えたのだ。帰宅した美登里に、右隣に住む小宮が声をかけた。小宮の奥さんには、空き家を気にかけてもらってきたが、介護が必要な夫を施設に入れ、自分は尼崎に住む息子と同居するので、近々、転居すると言う。その小宮が、気になる一言を洩らした。武田家の左隣の丸山家の奥さんが「ちょっとおかしい」らしい。丸山さんの奥さんは81歳。夫に先立たれ、息子・清隆と二人暮らしだが、清隆は長年、ひきこもっているので有名だった。そんな折、美登里は小学校時代に一番仲の良かった同級生・岩岡雅美と再会する……。
