昭和2（1927）年、松下電器（当時）が初めてアイロンの開発を手がけたときのことである。松下幸之助は若い技術者を呼んで言った。「合理的な設計と量産によって、できるだけ安いアイロンをつくり、その恩恵にだれでもが浴せるようにしたい。（中略）きみひとつ、このアイロンの開発を、ぜひ担当してくれたまえ」。これに対し、アイロンなどの電熱関係に疎かった技術者は、「これは私一人ではとても無理です」と辞退したが、その後の幸之助の言葉は力強く誠意に満ちていた。「いや、できるよ。きみだったら必ずできる」。その「ひと言」で青年の心は動き、それからわずか3カ月後、幸之助の願ったとおりの低価格で、便利なナショナルスーパーアイロンができあがった。
