Summary

黒人奴隷が逃げだせばそれは犯罪として扱われ、それを密告しなければ奴隷廃止論者と言われ、軽蔑のまなざしを受ける程でした。
そのなかで、ハックル・ベリーもまた黒人ジムを逃がすための手助けをしていることに、少なからず葛藤を抱きます。
時にはジムの黒人奴隷特有の極端な考え方に嫌気がさし、ジムを密告してしまおうかと揺らぐこともあります。
何を善とし、何を悪としてとらえるか、そのような思想の違いを作品を通して考えることができます。
そして、他者との関わり方など現代社会で私達が抱えている問題のヒントなどをこの作品から学ぶことができるかもしれません。
