Summary

昔、ある国の田舎に金持ちの百姓が住んでいました。百姓には兵隊のシモン、肥満のタラス、馬鹿のイワンという三人の息子がいました。兵隊のシモンは王様の家来になって戦争に行き、肥満のタラスは町へ出て商人になります。馬鹿のイワンはコツコツと畑を耕して働きます。そしてそれを見ていた悪魔が、この三兄弟をワナにかけようと近寄ってきます。シモンとタラスは戦争や商売の能力には長けていますが、悪魔に欲の深さを見透かされ、騙されたあげく無一文になってしまいます。しかし、素朴で馬鹿正直で欲のないイワンは悪魔に騙されず、逆に悪魔がこらしめられてしまう、という話です。※ 本作品は発表時の未熟な時代背景から、今日の社会では一般的でなく、不適切と思われる表現が含まれている箇所がございます。しかし作品のオリジナル性を最大限に尊重し、なるべく当時のまま忠実に再現することを優先いたしました。
