Though Black History Month happens every October, Black history happens every day. The first Black History Month in the UK was organised by a Ghanaian refugee in 1987, for the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the Caribbean. And as celebrations continue to grow, the focus has expanded to spotlight the contributions that people from African and Caribbean backgrounds have made to British culture and history. Black culture is not a monolith, so we hope you’ll join us in celebrating the writers, poets and historians featured in the collection – all of whom have helped to redefine our understanding of Black British experiences and history. —The Audible Editors
