Rob Barnett is an author, energy expert, and public speaker. He has worked for Bloomberg since 2011 and is currently a Senior Analyst with Bloomberg Intelligence, the company’s research division. After losing about 75 pounds starting in 2014, he co-authored The Economists’ Diet with his friend Chris Payne. The Economists’ Diet chronicles Chris and Rob’s weight-loss struggles and offers practical advice for learning the behaviors of thin people. Rob grew up in Georgia and the Carolinas; though don’t test him on his southern accent these days. After attending Clemson University (Go Tigers!), he packed his bags and headed to Boston for nearly a decade. He later moved to Washington DC and he currently resides in London UK with his wife and two children. Rob holds a master’s degree in economics from Boston University and undergraduate and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Clemson University. In addition to weight loss and dieting, Rob has applied his economic and engineering expertise to a myriad of problems faced by investors, policy makers, and executives at Fortune 500 companies. For Bloomberg Intelligence, Rob’s research covers the political economy of fossil fuels, energy sector economics, environmental regulation, and the impact of government policy on energy investment decisions. Before joining Bloomberg Intelligence, he was Bloomberg Government's Senior Energy Economist; and previously, he was an Associate Director of Climate Change and Clean Energy at IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates.
