Mike grew up in a small eastern Oregon town called Enterprise, where he fell in love with reading at an independent bookstore known as the Book Loft. For almost thirty years (post-college at Oregon State University) he worked as an on-air news broadcaster in Portland radio. In 1998 his original screenplay of "Finding Forrester" was awarded one of five Nicholl Fellowships from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and went on to become a holiday season release starring Sean Connery, Rob Brown and Anna Paquin. Over the following decade, Mike's films included "The Rookie," "Radio," The Nativity Story," and "Secretariat." His most recent screenwriting project was Pixar's 2017 release of "Cars 3." His first novel, "Skavenger's Hunt," was also published in late 2017; a tribute to the books he read as a young student in his hometown: titles that included "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," and "The Wizard of Oz."
