Michael Levitin was born in Maine in 1976 and raised in Northern California. He earned a BA in history from University of California, Santa Cruz, and a Masters degree from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. He worked for six years as a freelance correspondent in Barcelona and Berlin and has written for The Atlantic, The Guardian, Time, Financial Times, Newsweek and Los Angeles Times, among other publications. He is the author of Generation Occupy: Reawakening American Democracy (2021) and the novel Disposable Man (2019). He teaches journalism in the San Francisco Bay Area.
