Marianne Lock is an illustrator and all-round creator, based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Her creations can turn into anything, from a children’s book, to commercial illustrations for a brand, to a life-size stuffed horse as a film prop.
She works in different media, but always in her own style, advocating her personal view on the world. Her style has been described as playful, with the handmade and often nostalgic feel of real materials, such as watercolour paint.
It’s uplifting and for the young-at-heart.
Marianne was born in the small town of Hoek van Holland in 1987 and graduated illustration at Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam 21 years later. As a sensitive human being, she likes to keep her life simple and looks for beauty in small, everyday things. Observing a cat, being in nature, finding a thrift treasure. Some of her biggest inspirations are animals & nature, folklore art and film. With her distinctive simplicity and style, she tries to give the viewer a similar experience; to find some beauty in small joys.
