Born in Toronto in 1950, James FitzGerald is the author of two non-fiction books. "Old Boys: The Powerful Legacy of Upper Canada College" (Macfarlane Walter & Ross, 1994), is a controversial oral history of the flagship of Canada's elite prep schools. The book sparked the conviction of three former teachers for the sexual abuse of students and a successful multi-million dollar class action suit against UCC.
"What Disturbs Our Blood: A Son's Quest to Redeem the Past" (Random House Canada) won the 2010 Writers' Trust Non-Fiction Prize and was short-listed for three other major literary awards. The book is a blend of genres: a rich piece of Canadian history, an intense psychological drama, a mystery to be solved, and a hard-won escape from a family curse. The National Post called it "a banshee of a book."
James is currently working on "Dreaming Sally", a true story of first love, sudden death and synchronicity set in the summer of 1968. The book will complete a trilogy.
