I have spent more than five decades helping writers bring meaningful books into the world. In 1978 I founded Publication Consultants in Anchorage, Alaska. Since then, I have worked with hundreds of authors whose stories preserve history, strengthen communities, and hold institutions accountable. I believe words matter. When used with honesty and purpose, they can change lives. My career has taken me from remote Alaskan villages to national audiences as a publisher, editor, radio host, and writer. Along the way, Publication Consultants received the Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Ethics — recognition for the same values I try to bring to every book: promises kept, truths told plainly, and people treated with integrity. Publishing has never been only about producing books. It has been about standing beside authors, helping them shape their experiences into stories that inform, inspire, and endure. I lead writer communities, mentor emerging authors, and speak about the responsibility authors carry when they put words into the world. Alaska has been my home since 1957, two years before statehood. I came here as a young man and never left. I flew bush planes across country where there were no roads, and I learned early that the wilderness does not reward carelessness or dishonesty. Neither does publishing. With my wife Lois, I co-authored The Power of Authors, a book built on one conviction: purpose is the foundation of every sentence worth writing. That conviction has shaped everything I have done as a publisher and as a writer. I live in Anchorage with Lois. The conversations around our kitchen table continue to shape both my life and my work.
