DAMON BEYER has been working with business leaders around the globe for over two decades, drawing on a broad range of strategic, operational, and organizational experience to help executives unleash the full potential of their people. Damon is a creative thinker who blends ideas from different industries, challenging clients and their teams to think big, value candor, and look for practical changes that can drive big results. A senior executive advisor at the firm of Booz & Company, Damon guides leaders to frame new ways of thinking about old problems, move beyond conventional wisdom, and generate new insights so they can meet the future head on, create breakthrough organizational performance, and unlock the leadership potential buried deep within their organizations. Damon has extensive experience in organization, change, and leadership, with clients that range from suburban public school districts to global energy, technology, and consumer packaged goods companies. As a founding member of the Katzenbach Center for Organizational Innovation, Damon is currently helping to build Booz & Company's public education practice and is involved with much of the firm's work on informal organization. His first book, The Right Fight: How Great Leaders Use Healthy Conflict to Drive Performance, Innovation, and Value (co-authored with Saj-nicole Joni; HarperBusiness), makes a sharp and controversial critique of conventional management wisdom. He argues that organizational harmony and strategic alignment aren't enough to drive success. In fact, too much alignment can lead to insular blindness and complacency, resulting in major failures and steep decline. Instead, leaders need to know how to create and manage carefully selected healthy tensions -- conflicts that Damon terms "right fights" -- to lead their organizations to peak performance. Prior to joining Booz & Company, Damon was a partner in the Texas office of Katzenbach Partners. He began his consulting career in the Houston office of McKinsey & Company, where he was a leader in the North American operations and global energy practices. Leadership development has always been a focus for Damon. While at McKinsey Damon served as co-designer and North American Dean of the firm's Introductory Leadership Workshop, McKinsey's most widely attended internal training program. A frequent speaker on the subject of informal organization, Damon has been published in Harvard Business Review, Strategy and Business, Fast Company, The McKinsey Quarterly, Business Finance, and Oil & Gas Financial Journal. Damon earned a BS from the University of Louisiana and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Outside of his consulting career, Damon maintains an entrepreneurial spirit. An enthusiastic cook, knitter, and thespian, he frequently draws on his experience as a former chef and restaurateur in his home town of Lafayette, Louisiana to entertain friends and colleagues. He presently runs a successful rare knitting yarn small business and also leads the award winning theater ministry at his local church in Katy, Texas. Damon's favorite retreat is spending time with his wife Cindy and their two teenagers at their restored 1887 Victorian home in Deer Isle, Maine.
