Cordelia Frances Biddle's newest novel is They Believed They Were Safe, a dark tale set in picture-perfect 1962 New England. Her Martha Beale novels take place in 1840's Philadelphia. Martha Beale makes a fine guide to an often dangerous city. Cordelia's first novel, Beneath the Wind, explores the lethal side of colonialism in 1903. Nonfiction: Biddle, Jackson, and a Nation in Turmoil: The Infamous Bank War traces the bitter feud between financier, Nicholas Biddle and President Andrew Jackson. It was shortlisted for the 2022 Athenaeum of Philadelphia Literary Award. Also nonfiction: Saint Katharine: The Life of Katharine Drexel follows the miraculous work of Katharine Drexel.
