About this listen
You should never judge a book by its cover.
Amelia's been dubbed a "cat lady" by her friends and family, but hang on to your knickers because Amelia is about to discover desires that are anything but fitting for a cat lady.
And who is offering to show her a new world of kink? It's none other than Ben, the one man who broke her heart two decades ago.
What can possibly go wrong? Get ready for some good laughs but be pre-warned that this is not a closed-door romance and there may be some pearl-clutching moments for some listeners.
Warning: For those who love morally grey MMCs: although this book contains elements commonly found in dark romance, it is still a RomCom with a cinnamon roll hero who likes to be called Sir.
For the RomCom fans: There are lots of laughs but it also contains bum stuff and other kinks that may get you hot under the collar.

Cute and sexy read
The story and characters are great. the only thing I didn't like was the narration. Ben and Emilias voice sounds the same was was confusing. I prefer when a narrator has a distinct difference between a male and female character.
The story itself is great though.

Review
Received as an ALC.
🐈⬛ Romantic comedy
🐈⬛ Small town
🐈⬛ Cat lover
🐈⬛ Second chance
🐈⬛ Age gap
🐈⬛ Some nice kink inclusion
🐈⬛ Older characters
Don’t let the cover fall you, she spicy. The fact our FMC and MMC are older had me doing a happy little dance. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy nearly everything I read but for once I’m glad they were older, it made them much more relatable than being in college etc.
Of you’re after a book that will give you the laughs, the spice, the easy read and the best cat sidekick then this is one for you.
My only thing I would have preferred is if it was dual narrated with a male and female voice actor and not just a female, I feel it would have added a bit more to the flow of the book. But that’s personal preference ☺️

Absolutely purrrfection
The Unnatural Habitat of a Cat Lady by Dani Elias is refreshing. It is so nice to read a book that explores kink in a natural way that is a gentle introduction to the scene without posing. TBH, Dani Elias had me at the minute Ben dismisses public perception of the scene based on a certain book series "high five" glorious! Also, fantastc in warning about the dodgy people out there
The characters are relatable (espesh Smutty the cat for his comic asides) even down to Amelia's friends who are well balanced in their little triumvirate
Bear with me here if Amelia and Ben give me kinda Danny Zuko/ Sandy vibes (I loved the couples dynamic and it kinda reminded me of this balance). He is more experienced in the scene, where as she is more innocent, finding her way. The key point being, they were together many years ago and Ben broke Amelia's heart. Little does she know that the Pleasure dom she has met on a dating site is her ex. That is, until they agree to meet up on a date, where he is desperate to set everything straight
All in all, a fun read. More Korean Chili sauce than Sriracha in the spice department, and I mean that as a compliment because it is beautifully in context with the storyline and as such, that is a huge five stars from me. Well played, well played "Chef's kiss"
Thank you to Happily Booked PR for both the ALC and ARC. This was a great read and oh my life, Jane O'Neill was the perfect narrator! Absolutely on point with the characters and the vibes! My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own

Quick, fun romcom
This was a really fun, quick listen. I finished it in one sitting. This was my first book by this author and I’m definitely going to be looking for more of her work. I don’t know if it’s because this is a british romcom, but I think it gives Sophie Kinsella vibes so if you like her books, you should definitely check this out.
I really enjoyed the narration. It’s a solo female narration but dual POV and while the narrator’s male voice isn’t very strong, I really enjoyed the narration, including the spicy scenes in the MMC’s POV. She’s got the perfect voice for a romcom. She was amazing during the humorous parts, but also conveyed the tension in the steamy/spicy bits and the anxiety and heartache in the emotional bits.
I love it when pets play matchmaker in books, and Amelia’s cat, deserves all the pampering and treats for her role in the story. I also love it when the main character treats their pet like a person.
Amelia is such a relatable character. She formidable at work, but in her personal life, the has so many insecurities. I really felt it when she was talking about her struggles with finding love and self-acceptance. I love how even in her insecurities, she has her moments of assertiveness where she asks for what she wants. She not a pushover. I love how Ben owned up to the mistake he made that let to their break up 20 years ago, (They’re in their 40s now. Yay for older main characters!) and tried to make it up to her. I love how supportive he is and how he fights for their relationship.
This book was surprisingly spicy for a romcom. I love how Ben is very attentive to her needs and values consent. I love how he gives her a safe space to accept herself for who she is, and that he makes her feel valued and cared for.
This is a great book if your looking for something light and fluffy, with a bit of spice, characters who learn from their mistakes and fight for what they want, and side characters that add humour to the story and are caring towards and supportive of the main characters.

Good story, not as strong narration

The Unnatural Habitat of a Cat Lady follows the story of Amelia Foley, a 41 year-old curvy cat mum with a high-powered security job, and Ben Whitmore, a 42 year old CEO, her ex from 18 years ago, and a Pleasure Dom. The two reconnect on a BDSM dating app, although Amelia doesn't initially know it's Ben!
I really enjoyed this story, I found it funny, heartwarming and believable! I found both MCs to be endearing characters, and I couldn't put it down!
Amelia is a strong woman in business, but has so many self deprecating thoughts and feelings and is struggling with depression. When she finally confesses everything to Ben it is so emotional! I was so glad she started therapy!
I loved Ben so much! As soon as he first sees Amelia he knows he has to apologise for their breakup 18 years ago, and at each step he is falling more and more. He is fighting with himself that he can't let things go further because he won't let himself or Amelia be hurt again. I was so glad when he gave it! And that mouth on him 🥵 I think this is the first Pleasure Dom I've read about and it was so good!! On top of this, seeing him with his nephew was so cute!
I loved the side characters and squealed a little bit when Coop and Lizzie showed up! I was so happy to see the next book is about Bri finding her HEA!
I thought Jane was a good narrator, especially for the female parts. Her pace and tone were good and made the audiobook enjoyable. However, I did feel that her male voice was not strong, and it was only minorly different to the FMC's voice. There were also some accents which got thrown in which I did not think were necessary or done that well- particularly Samira. Being from the UK, I couldn't really place her accent and it seemed to drift between a few regions.
Overall, and enjoyable listen but some issues with variation.

Fun take on a rom-com
This was such an enjoyable book - it's a cute, second-chance rom com, with some fun spicy times, great banter, and full of quirkiness and wit.
The first thing I have to say is that I absolutely adored that it was a book about older characters (Amelia is 40). I genuinely loved that Elias took the "cat lady" trope and turned it into this fun read.
Amelia and Ben reconnect through a dating app 20 years on from their last failed attempt at a relationship. I loved the reasoning for Amelia's friend signing her up to this particular app - I giggled out loud with this scene.
The show stealer of the whole book though? Smutty. Seriously, I always love an animal sidekick, but this cat took it to a whole new level.
I loved the growth of Amelia and Ben, both individually and as a couple, through the course of the book. This was a very low-angst, high spice romance which I would honestly recommend to so many for a more light-hearted read.
Listening to this book brought to life by O'Neill brings another dimension to it. I really enjoyed her narration of Amelia's story, bringing a warmth to her character and making her feel even more relatable. O'Neill did a fantastic job solo-reading this book (written as a dual POV story between Amelia and Ben), bringing every part of it to life.
