About this listen

The Monster Under the Bed is a practical exploration of how to navigate sex and relationships while coping with depression. JoEllen Notte will help you understand how sexual function is affected by depression and what keeps us from effectively addressing it. Heavily informed by the author’s research, including surveys of over 1,000 people and interviews with close to 200, this is the first book of its kind. With practical tips and real-life examples, this is both a guidebook for people with depression and the people who love them, as well as a reference tool for mental health professionals.

An Essential Read

I was looking forward to reading this book for a number of months and I wasn't disappointed when I got it! I'm a student of psychotherapy and I found it a great accompaniment to my course reading. The book gives an excellent first hand account of what it's like to live with depression, and how that can impact romantic and sexual relationships. The author walks through helpful tips for communicating with doctors, partners, and family regarding ones needs when battling with depression. She also speaks to the partners of people with depression, and clearly points out how to be an ally in that situation.

I've already recommended this to lots of friends. If I could afford to I'd buy multiple copies as presents for people, I would.
