Summary

The long-awaited sixth installment of Laura Antoniou's Marketplace series!

When last we saw Chris Parker, he had been bought by master trainer Tetsuo Sakai and was blissfully ensconced in Japan under Tetsuo's wonderfully sadistic boot. And here we join Robin Cassidy, now contentedly serving a slave contract for a rich Chicago businessman. But the Marketplace is shaken when a new Trainer of Trainers must be anointed, and the resulting machinations and clashing loyalties threaten to tear their world apart. Everyone has a stake in the outcome, and Chris Parker is about to find out who is with him and who is against him. Richly told, interconnecting threads of Parker's previously unseen past with his complicated present, The Inheritor also weaves in the narratives of many favorite Marketplace characters, including Robin, Ken Mandarin, and Ron Avidon and features appearances by many more, including Jiro, Rachel, Michael, and Grendel.

I really liked this and the series as a whole over

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'd recommend this, and the series because the world and characters are so good. I wasn't a huge fan of the first book, as I found quite a few of the characters shallow and not believable. However, she must have thought the same due to the fact she only continued with the ones that were good in the rest of the books.

What did you like best about this story?

The fact that two characters are separated for years and yet seem to be constantly connected by an unlikely ... love? I also love the concept of a shadow world of slavery she has created here. There is sex of course of a BDSM nature, or S/M play, but the book is deeper than that, as you'd expect due to the staggering length of all of her books.

Some might say the books are too long and could have used some editing down, but honestly I like the depth she goes into and the detail. In a book market where books all seem to be getting shorter I'm glad to get my teeth into a good long listen.

Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Jasicki’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Yes, and I find her narration very easy on the ear. She sets a scene well, and voices her characters well.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Chris's choice is the easy answer here. Horrible position he is put in to choose a life he loves or a life of duty, knowing that if he choose the life he loves it will cost a huge price to his training line. I thought the choice was going to be obvious given how many books we have got to know Chris over, but she could have surprised me, maybe she did. You'll have to read to find out!

I also loved the ending. The position Chris is put into by his ... well, niece I guess you would call her, is a horrible spot to be in. I won't ruin what it is that happens, but she basically turns up at his home and drops a whole heap of trouble into his lap. Can't wait to see how that plays out in the next book.
