Weird to have a different narrator but you soon get used to it

This book is a good balance of well known characters and new perspectives. Bring on the pack life!

spoilers

The book is ok but I really wish for better relations between humans and Amaroki. Eilea was human for most of her life and only was gifted the ability to become a shifter when an Amaroki god deemed her worthy. It's only this moment that she remembers that her grandmother was a witch and that she knew all her grandmother spells. Her magical ability originated with her human grandmother but this fact is completely ignored after that hasty and idiotic revelation. Once assimilated into the Amaroki she becomes nothing more than the magical black person trope. Having to lose for humanity and in a way the origins of her magic seems like a downgrade to her character. It only serves to make Nekomi right in saying that humans and Amaroki should not mix because humanity seems to only lose out in the bargain.
