About this listen

Soren’s world is shattered when her father’s body is found near the border of Draestel.

The archeologist left instructions for his daughter in the event of his death. Soren is to find and destroy the artifact that he was killed for, a magical object with the power to unmake all of Entheas. As she closes in on finding answers, she is kidnapped and taken to the Mountains of Thorncrest. There, she is surprised to find that her captor is not only the dark stranger she has been dreaming about, but the killer’s son. Everything she once knew unravels around her as she discovers the reason for her imprisonment. Thrust into a world that she didn’t know existed, she finds herself growing close to the man she is supposed to hate.

Will she find a way to escape and avenge her father? Or will she fall for the Prince of Ravens?

Secrets and Songbirds is N.J. Rodman's debut Fantasy Romance Novel. It is the first of a series and includes tropes such as enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, fated mates, and forced proximity, just to name a few. It is a loose Beauty and the Beast retelling set in the world of Entheas. Secrets and Songbirds features a strong female lead battling anxiety and grief following the loss of her father. Side characters include a best friend who is trying to get over an abusive past and a lovable boy who provides comedic relief between the more serious themes throughout the book.

Secret and Songbirds is the first audiobook I’ve ever listened to so I was worried that it’d be quite monotonous and hard to follow along, but it wasn’t at all!

Because I’ve already read the book multiple times I had an idea of how I thought the characters would sound and act, and the narrators are so perfectly suited to each character and really gave them all a life and personality of their own!

Even though I know the story, hearing the emotional scenes and the cliffhanger ending felt like I was living the story for the first time again! The narrators portrayed the emotions so well and really made me feel like I was transported into the book!

This story has such a special place in my heart, as do the characters, and I’m so glad that the audiobook did them justice!
