About this listen
Hart Jarrett was only supposed to be passing through Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He wasn’t supposed to get involved, no emotional entanglements to tie him down. Setting down roots was never part of the plan, not until he opened himself up to love. Too bad the man he bet on bailed and left Hart holding the ranch. There were two choices after that: run away, or stay and build something real from nothing.
Nearly six years later, Hart has created a home and a life he never expected, with the help of his best friend and foreman, Morgan Brace. The ranch is thriving thanks to its loyal men and strong ties to the community. But there’s a snake in the garden, and it takes many forms. There’s a dead man on Hart’s property, a man he knows, and the questions are piling up. As if that weren’t enough, his ex has reappeared out of the blue, with plans to reclaim what he willingly gave.
And, to make matters worse, it appears Morgan is finally taking his dating life seriously.
Everything Hart has built is unraveling.
The life Hart wants doesn’t work without Morgan in it. Imagining a future without Morgan, him turning elsewhere for love and coming in second to someone else in Morgan’s heart - as well as his bed - is almost unbearable. So maybe, just maybe, the answer lies in Hart confessing that he loves Morgan more than life itself.
If Hart gambles and loses, will he even still want the life he’s worked so hard to build?

A real feel good love story
I read this on kindle unlimited first, then read it again and again and I had to have to audiobook. The love story has all of those great ingredients that make it work so well. Morgan Brace has enough angst and is just tortured enough, whilst Hart had snark and cuteness a plenty to soothe his love. My only gripe was Lee and Blake I didn't really get their dynamic. Mary Calmes is a fantastic author, definitely give this book a go

Forgive and forget, even domestic violence
No one's as gullible to the point of plain stupidity as Hart. It's this weird combination of competent where it really matters, fumblingly incompetent where it doesn't but make it cutesy and adorable (not), oversharing sensitive information to anyone who asks, completely oblivious to the surroundings i.e. talking about ongoing issues/ police investigations where anyone can overhear without even trying...And I haven't even touched the matter of how Hart reacts (read doesn't react) to his abusive ex just strolling in and making demands.
I just can't. I'm rolling my eyes so hard. It's not even that Hart's some kind of beaten down traumatized doormat, because that's not how he's portrayed. His reactions, motivations and logic are just nonsensical. Gullible is the closest adjective. A too stupid to live character, who instead of being the classical toughened hard face, has the unwavering belief that everyone deserves grace and a second (or tenth) chance, no matter the offence or lack of remorse. Discustingly virtuous as the main take away is that jaw breaking domestic violence is somehow okay because the offender has PTSD. Or something as iffy.

Bombarded with Minutiae
In the first hour of this book you are just bombarded with names! So many characters, like pieces in a puzzle but as yet with no picture or scene to match them up with. As nothing much happens in the first hour, no plot, no story development, nothing to engage you to temp you further in, I was just daunted, disappointed and gave up.
WTF ?
