About this listen

It takes a minx to tempt a rogue.

Beautiful and feisty Henrietta Barrett has never followed the dictates of society. She manages her elderly guardian's estate, prefers to wear breeches rather than dresses, and answers to the unlikely name of Henry. But when her guardian passes away, her beloved home falls into the hands of a distant cousin.

And it takes a rogue to tame her.

William Dunford, London's most elusive bachelor, is stunned to learn that he's inherited property, a title, and a ward bent on making his first visit his last. Henry is determined to continue running the Cornwall estate without help from the handsome new lord, but Dunford is just as sure he can change things, starting with his wild young ward. But turning Henry into a lady makes her not only the darling of the town but an irresistible attraction to the man who thought he could never be tempted.

An early work but a must for Quinn fans

It’s clear that this is an earlier work of the author as she refined her craft in later books. Otherwise it was really enjoyable and had me engaged and laughing.
The narrator is great at the female voice but not so much on the male voices. They sound too old and lecherous to be the male leads we are rooting for.

Tragically bad narration

Sadly, the narrration is so bad so that it ruins the whole experience. The story would be lovely, anyway.

Spoilt by narration

Any additional comments?

This is my favourite Julia Quinn book so I was really excited when I saw it was to be released as an audiobook. Unfortunately it has been ruined by the narrator so much so that I will be returning it without finishing it. The main male character is meant to be fun loving with a sense of humour and instead sounds like a middle aged bore. I will be going back to reading it on my kindle.

Not the best narration

Good book and story line. The narration is hard to listen to and very irritating. Get the book and read it yourself.

The story

Felt like I was listening to someone read a book to a toddler with silly over the top voices. Worst audiobook I’ve ever listened to. Ended up giving up listening. Such a shame as enjoyed reading the book in the past.

Terrible narration, average story

I very nearly returned this book within 3 minutes of listening. The narrator tried so hard to make the hero’s voice deep that she lost the ability to add any other inflections or emotions. So his character became dull, lifeless and utterly unconvincing. This distracted from the storyline so much that I simply didn’t enjoy the book. I would give the narrator zero stars if I could.

Boring

Utterly boring both story and narration. I gave up halfway through. I normally like Julia Quinn's stories but not this one.
