About this listen

Ella's always heard voices and because of them, she ends up institutionalized at a young age. Everyone calls her crazy and she believes she is too until the night she meets a vampire and for the first time in her life, the voices shut up.

Zane just wants to enjoy his usual blood buffet; instead he runs into a wisp of a woman who makes him feel emotions he thought long dead. Rescuing her from the insane asylum, he brings her home, determined to seduce and feed from her, a plan that is foiled by ghostly voices determined to keep Ella untouched. But not even poltergeists can stand in the way of a vampire in love.

This has been my favourite story that I have read by Eve Langlais. I found it very easy to read, the plot had enough mystery to keep me wondering what would happen next and I loved both of our main characters - Ella and Zane - they had all the traits that I look for in leading characters. If this was a longer book, I would have loved to get to know Zane's butler and cook more too.

I downloaded the audio version of this book and was very impressed with the narration. It is the first time I have listened to a story with 2 narrators. Both Summer Morton and Lee Samuels are new-to-me but I enjoyed their performances; how they read this story, the pace at which they read certain scenes and how they varied their tones.

My only niggle was with how Ms Langlais dealt with the threat on Ella's life; I felt it came to a head too quickly and the conclusion was too easy. It was a bit of an "oh, was that it" moment.

There is no perilous life or death cliffhanger ending (woo!hoo!) and I look forward to reading book 2.

A Great Paranormal Romance That's Also Fun To Read
