The Decameron is one of the greatest literary works of the Middle Ages. Bernabo von Genua verliert durch Ambrogiuolos Betrug sein Vermögen und befiehlt, dass seine unschuldige Frau getötet werde. Sie entkommt und dient in Männerkleidern dem Sultan. Diese Begebenheit sorgt für große Erheiterung, als Alibech schließlich wieder in die Stadt zurückkehrt und von ihrem „Gottesdienst“ berichtet.

Drei Jünglinge verschwenden das Ihrige und geraten in Armut. Einer ihrer Neffen, der aus Verzweiflung nach Hause zurückkehrt, macht unterwegs mit einem Abt Bekanntschaft, den er hernach für eine Tochter des Königs von England erkennt. Sie vermählt sich mit ihm, ersetzt seinen Oheimen ihren Verlust und verhilft ihnen wieder zum Wohlstand.

Ein Stallknecht schläft bei der Gemahlin des Königs Agilulfs. Der König bemerkt es im Stillen, findet ihn und schneidet ihm die Haare ab. Der Geschorene tut seinen Kameraden ein gleiches und entgeht dadurch seinem Unstern.

Eine Dame, die in einen jungen Mann verliebt ist, bringt unter dem Vorwand der Beichte und großer Gewissenhaftigkeit einen gestrengen Mönch dahin, dass er, ohne zu wissen, was er tut, sie an das Ziel ihrer Wünsche führt.

Martellino stellt sich lahm und gibt vor, durch den Leichnam des heiligen Heinrich geheilt zu werden. Sein Betrug wird entdeckt, er wird geprügelt und eingekerkert und schwebt in Gefahr, gehenkt zu werden, kommt aber endlich los.
