 The Kanda Matsuri was the official festival of the Edo shogunate and has, since the Edo period, been regarded as both one of the three biggest festivals in the city. 東京都千代田区の神田明神は、だいこく様やえびす様などを祀り、江戸時代には江戸の守り神として信仰を集めました。
この神社の例祭が、2年に一度、5月に行われる神田祭です。
江戸幕府の公式な祭礼だった神田祭は、江戸時代から江戸三大祭り、および日本三大祭りの一つとされてきました。
神田祭では7日間にわたってさまざまな行事が行われます。なかでも、神輿や山車をともなった数千人の行列が、神田や日本橋、秋葉原などを巡行する光景は壮観です。
また、100基にのぼる神輿が神社の境内に入っていく「神輿宮入」も迫力に満ちています。
江戸時代から続く神田祭は江戸っ子の晴れ舞台で、神輿を担ぐ男性の中にはふんどし姿も見られます。©2017 KODANSHA　 English
