Summary
The apocalypse will be televised!
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible.
In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground.
The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot. A dungeon so enormous, it circles the entire globe.
Only a few dare venture inside. But once you're in, you can't get out. And what's worse, each level has a time limit. You have but days to find a staircase to the next level down, or it's game over. In this game, it's not about your strength or your dexterity. It's about your followers, your views. Your clout. It's about building an audience and killing those goblins with style.
You can't just survive here. You gotta survive big.
You gotta fight with vigor, with excitement. You gotta make them stand up and cheer. And if you do have that "it" factor, you may just find yourself with a following. That's the only way to truly survive in this game - with the help of the loot boxes dropped upon you by the generous benefactors watching from across the galaxy.
They call it Dungeon Crawler World. But for Carl, it's anything but a game.

If I could give a 6 for performance I would.
Lit rpg is not my thing. I've been bemused by the genre if I'm honest. When this book came recommended by trusted friends I figured I'd take a punt.
I was not disappointed. The match between story and narrator is wonderful. I found myself listening at every opportunity.
The performance by Hays made it a definite that'll I'll buy the others.
It tracks Carl and his cat Donut as they are forced to do a dungeon crawl level by level.
Worst sales pitch ever, but trust me... It shouldn't work and yet it does.
It really does.
Loved it. Even if lit rpg isn't your thing but you like fantasy or have been a role player or computer gamer, dungeon bash wannabe, I think you will find it hits the mark.
This book has forced me to admit I need to take a second look at the genre. But I doubt anyone else will nail it like this! After I've finished this series though.
If you aren't finding yourself muttering the phrase 'GODAMMIT DONUT' by the time you're part way through the book, I'll be genuinely surprised.
What an absolute delight!

A Cut Above the Rest
This is one of the best LitRPG series currently available. (This review goes for the other 3 audiobooks, too.) The premise is unique. The characters are believable. The action is non-stop. The weird-shit-o-metre is in the red. The narration is perfect.
Mr. Dinniman has raised the bar for LitRPG, and this is now one of the series by which I judge all others in the genre.
I've listened to the first 4 books twice within a couple of months.

Hilarious and engaging
Dammit Donut!!!
A hilarious take on the litrpg genre.
Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy meets running man it is the best way I can describe it.
It will make you smile not a serious book at all, even though it deals with death and destruction at times it deals with them responsibility.
The narration suits the subject matter perfectly

Strap in for an awesome series
Running man meets sarcastic humour, a bit gory but hillarious, intelligent, witty and brilliantly narrated. This is the first in the series and they just keep getting better, Carl is a brilliantly written character who reveals deeper levels to his personality and Donut the cat is EXACTLY the imperious self absorbed but actually rather loveable personality that prevents Cat owners from giving up on Cats straight away. An utter fave!
