About this listen
Random House presents the audiobook edition of The Mechanic written and read by Marc 'Elvis' Priestley.
In the high-octane atmosphere of the Formula One pit lane, the spotlight is most often on the superstar drivers. And yet, without the technical knowledge, competitive determination and outright obsession from his garage of mechanics, no driver could possibly hope to claim a spot on the podium. These are the guys who make every world champion, and any mistakes can have critical consequences.
That's not to say the F1 crew is just a group of highly skilled technical engineers, tweaking machinery in wind tunnels and crunching data through high-spec computers. These boys can seriously let their hair down. Whether it be parties on luxury yachts in Monaco or elaborate photo opportunities in gravity-defying aeroplanes, this is a world which thrills on and off the track.
Join McLaren's former number one mechanic, Marc 'Elvis' Priestley, as he tours the world, revealing some of Formula One's most outrageous secrets and the fiercest rivalries, all fuelled by the determination to win.
This is Formula One as you've never seen it before.

Thoroughly entertaining listen
I’ve seen Marc more increasingly on sky sports F1 and whilst i knew he was a McLaren mechanic I had no idea which roles and drivers he’d worked with or his experience. This book really validates his credentials and gives a unique insight into the inner workings of a race and test team. From the outside McLaren had a stale corporate image but this shines a new light on the antics of the Woking team and in my opinion makes the whole team more likeable. I really enjoyed the dynamics between Kimi and Marc and it gives us armchair fans a new perspective on KImi too which will only endear him to even more fans.
Marc reads his own book and nobody could have done a better job. Never boring or dull and I’ll be listening again very soon.

Brilliant book for fans of F1
A brilliantly written book about the world of F1 from a mechanic’s point of view. Great stories about Kimi and the fall out in 2007 of Lewis and Fernando.

Fascinating
I'm a big F1 fan and loved Marc's account. There's simply not enough insight from guys like Marc. Lots from drivers and cake eating journalists, but the hard working dedicated front line 'knuckle draggers' with tales to tell and who tell it like it is are rare.
I'm sure this could have been three times longer too. I missed some of the more technical insight and techniques as well as details around the cutting edge development.
The second by second account of a pitstop had my heart pounding and more of the same around some of the more famous or infamous incidents would have been great.
Still 5 stars though for a fantastic account...
