About this listen

A Dream for Peace is the most surprising ambassador's memoir.

The French edition Un Rêve Pour La Paix was published in 2018 by les Éditions de l'Archipel, in Paris, France. The Algerian edition was released in December 2018 by les Éditions Dalimen, in Algiers, Algeria. A Dream For Peace is the American version of this very rich and captivating life story paved with many bumps, twists, and turns, multiple lives in one life.

Young Ghoulem Berrah was a Freedom Fighter for the Independence of Algeria. While an activist medical student in Bordeaux, France, he was pursued by the police and fled the country. Despite crawling on his hands and knees for hours, when he arrived in Pamplona, Spain, he was arrested and imprisoned. In his early 20s he represented the FLN (Algerian Liberation Front) in China, and met Chairman Mao Zedong. Soon after he traveled to America as a prestigious Fulbright Scholar at Indiana University. His research spearheaded innovations which impacted the world of Biological Sciences. He was listed among the American Men of Science and became Dr. Ghoulem Berrah a permanent member of the New York Academy of Science. He was then hired to be a lecturer at the Yale School of Medicine.

Concerned by the lack of worldwide peace, he accepted an offer from President Houphouët-Boigny of Côte d'Ivoire to serve in Africa. His Diplomatic talents were obvious as he served as a Special Advisor, Emissary, and Ambassador at Large. Here he faced the turmoil of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict head on, challenged the status quo and embraced both dialogue and peace. In 1976, he initiated the first secret meeting between the I C I P P (Israeli Council for Israeli-Palestine Peace) and the PLO of Chairman Arafat.

His Excellency Dr. Ghoulem Berrah (1938-2011) was a tireless proponent of world peace. After President Siad Barre of Somalia took the port of Berbera from the Russians, Dr. Berrah was charged with delivering the news to the Americans.

In the middle of the diplomatic imbroglios, the author unfolds the chronicle of a fascinating love story. A devout Muslim and interfaith leader, he walks with you through Mecca, the Vatican and Jerusalem. A compelling story for any listener.
