Andrew Scott (the narrator)
"I think they’ve affected every child. There’s something about the sweetness and the simplicity of the stories that just ignites the imagination of children. And, of course, they’re beautifully illustrated. They talk about nature in the most beautiful way. They’re a real pleasure to read.
What I like about these little characters is that some of them are quite proud little characters. He’s a little rebel - that’s what Peter Rabbit is. But he also gets himself into trouble, he’s inquisitive, and his siblings are very well behaved. So, he’s got a bit of spirit about him.
It’s extraordinary what Beatrix Potter’s legacy was, in the sense that she left so much land to the National Trust. She was a real lover of nature and that’s all over the stories. They’re really beautiful, and I think for kids now to read them, they’re sort of enchanting. I like them because, like all good stories for children, they have a subversive edge. I think that’s pretty cool."
Margaux Carpentier (the illustrator)
"I do illustration and I do quite a lot of painting as well. First, I re-read the stories. Some of them I didn’t read, I hadn’t read since I was a kid or ever. I found out that they were actually quite dark, but fun at the same time.
I’m quite a fan of the original drawings. I love them, I think they’re brilliant. They’re such famous, iconic characters that I wanted to do a good job. And I think I managed to bring my own style to these characters, while getting people to re-discover these stories and tales."
