Summary

Kvothe is an adventurer, a musician and a magically gifted young man who grows to be the most notorious wizard his world has ever seen.

In a series of semi-autobiographical tales that offers a unique take on fantasy literature, our hero encounters sorrow, survival and a search for his purpose in the universe.

Taking on the monumental task of portraying Kvothe in the audiobooks is voice artist Nick Podehl. He plays the role with aplomb, with an effortless yet immersive style that draws you into the narrative and the various realms and adversaries encountered by our protagonist.

Fans of the series include George R. R. Martin, Orson Scott Card and composer Lin-Manuel Miranda who cites the books as a key inspiration for some of the songs that appear in Disney's Moana.

Author Patrick Rothfuss was inspired to write his groundbreaking work while studying a bachelor's degree in English. The original version took the form of a single novel entitled The Song of Flame and Thunder, however, it failed to gain traction with publishers. His big break came when an excerpt from the full prose won a Writers of the Future competition and the rest is literary history.

Rothfuss has won several awards for the series, including the 2007 Quill Award for the first book, The Name of the Wind. The Kingkiller Chronicle book series has sold over 10 million copies around the world and there are big plans to adapt the work into a film, TV series and a video game. In 2016, the board game Tak was released, based on a fictional game in The Wise Man's Fear.
