Summary

A powerful story set against the backdrop of today's Israel.

Nothing in Abigail MacLeod's life as a wife, a mother, and a teacher has prepared her for what she will experience during her summer in Israel. At 42, her life is in chaos, even before she leaves home - her marriage is dissolving before her very eyes, and her faith is in shambles. This pilgrimage to Israel was supposed to be a new beginning for her. But by the end of the first day, she is forced to board an Israeli jetliner in spite of a bomb threat and watches helplessly as a kind, fatherly gentleman she befriended on the plane dies in her arms.

This is a summer Abby will spend learning about archaeology, delving into the past. And it's a summer that will change her life in ways she never imagined.

so interesting and inspiring

This was a beautiful listen. It was expertly mapped together over the history of religion in such an understandable way that it truly enlightened me. It had heartache but so many positive messages filtered through. Well worth a listen

A wonderful story

Current day Israeli Palestinian conflict explained beautifully in this story full of hope. A great flashback technique between AD60 and current times

Excellent

A superb storyline. No bad language or sexual content which was wonderfully refreshing.
I liked the layers of stories across the centuries which meshed into the one story. I felt it gave me an insight into the Israeli-Palestinian, Jewish & Christian life in the middle-east. It felt well researched. I like that it wasn’t gushing, yet had a feel-good factor to it.
I shall be looking out for this author again.

Not for me

The story I am sure would have been ok but the narrator was just not for me. I tried to persevere as I really wanted to listen to the entire story however the narration seemed so patronising that I had to return the book. Perhaps this is better as a book
rather than audio.
