Starring the North Norfolk Coast!

There's a wistful feel from the very start of the book as the Detective Sargent has finally decided the time has come to retire, what with a new Inspector & all. He looks to prepare his loyal, small team of Chris Waters & Serina Butler both of whom he's been mentoring, along with friend & old hand John Murray for the post-DC era, as they work on what maybe their last big murder case together.
The body of a man is recovered from the estuary / edge of the saltmarshes; and the North Norfolk coast around Burham Overy Staithe becomes centre stage in an investigation into his murder, that brings a now reclusive late 1960's pop-star into the detectives sights.
Time & Tide is another superb police procedural, with incites into interviewing techniques and plenty of delightful dry humour from DC despite his mixed feelings about things all changing and tide & time waiting for no-one.

Brilliant

Hope this isn’t the last one in this series as I enjoyed this book very much. From book one you get inside the characters and feel you know them but ,you never do ,so keep reading.

Norfolk

I know the area in which the story is set, it all comes across so well. All characters are well defined. I really enjoy the sense of fun between the main characters.

Another great book in the Sargeant 'DC' Smith series. I am listening to the books in order and am really enjoying each one. The narration was first class.

A wonderful series

This whole series is fantastic; I listen to them all again in order at least once a year. Intricate plotting, convincing and compelling characters, a great deal of heart and soul. Far superior to Morse/Frost/Banks etc etc.

Best yet

This series about DC Smith is one of the best I have listened to. Gildart Jackson gets the humour exactly right; he is a brilliant narrator, you really feel as if the story is actually happening in real time. He also makes Smith incredibly attractive (to me, anyway) as his intellect, wit and wistfulness are very attractive, and rare, traits in a man. Peter Grainger writes so knowledgeably on police work, but also on the different personalities involved so you really get to know them and want to know more. I am going to miss DC and his team, and hope the next book, with DC as a private detective? is just as involving. Please keep them coming. Peter Grainger should be lauded as a brilliant writer in this genre and I wonder why he is not a household name. He should be.

Such a brilliant series, I’m down loading the next one now

The storyline is very good. DC is a funny man, all the characters are intriguing but the narration tops it all. Books can be ruined by poor choice in narrator, you got this just right, on a par with Stephen Fry and his Harry Potter 😊
