Summary

Never make a bet with a man who plays to win....

Especially not a man like handsome, arrogant Connor Pratt. A.k.a. the huge PITA who's currently crashing in my spare room. A.k.a. my brother's best friend since they were about six. A.k.a. the one guy who still makes me feel like an awkward tongue-tied loser.

But when Connor moved in, I got a glimpse of another side of him. Because, like me, Connor's going through a nasty break-up. And, like me, he's just doing whatever he can to get through it.

Unfortunately, his method involves drinking alarming amounts of whiskey and watching a lot of, um...movies...that make every inch of my skin flush. I'm just trying to be helpful when I tell him that he should try my method: copious amounts of baked goods, sappy romantic comedies, and late nights spent whining with girlfriends.

But I should have known Connor would take that as a challenge. Now, he says he'll try my way of dealing with a break-up...but only if I agree to try his. Six month's rent to the person whose method works best.

We call it the break-up bet. And I'm going to win. Except right now, it feels like there's a whole lot more at stake than just rent money....

Contains mature themes.

Nice story

The story is nice but the male narrator is horrible!!! Really horrible! Fortunately, he only has a few short chapters in the book. The female narrator, on the other hand, deserves 5 stars.

Female narrator should have read the whole book!

Enjoyable story, but my days. Alexander Cendese (as per usual) sounds like a frat boy excitedly reading romance. Just awful 😖 The number of books he has spoiled for me 🙄 I only persevered because I'd read the 3 books before this one and wanted to know what happened to Lucy!

Great writing

good well balanced story, enough lighter moments to balance the drama. loved that tge charachters behaved like grownups rather than moody teens

Lovely story

It’s a sweet story and a pleasant escape. The pace is good. There is something off with the sound though. Alexander Cendese sounds like he was recorded in a cupboard. The female narrator has a wholesome sound to her, which is much nicer. I also don’t like how AC always sounds like he is joking even if he is talking about serous stuff. I suspect that’s down to the producer, but it’s a shame as I know he can narrate more compelling.

Meh

I was searching through the Audible Plus catalogue for something easy to listen to whilst I spent the day baking and this provided that. I didn't have to pay close attention to follow along and the story isn't a complex or deeply detailed one. It follows Lucy & her brothers best friend Connor who is moving back to NYC and is in need of a place to live and she just so happens to need a roommate. You don't have to be a genius to figure out where this story goes or how it gets there. I didn't really feel the love connection between these two but that was down to Lucy's character tbh, she was so judgemental, narrow minded, nieve and self deprecating at times that I couldn't help but roll my eyes, that entire scene at the wedding was ridiculous and caused by her yet she acted like the aggrieved party. Overall this was nothing special, I guarantee that I will remember nothing about this by morning but it did keep me entertained whilst I spent my day baking. The narrators were good and I enjoyed their performances. If your looking for light/fluffy/mindless entertainment then this will give you that. 🌶
