Summary

Imajica is an epic beyond compare: vast in conception, obsessively detailed in execution, and apocalyptic in its resolution. At its heart lies the sensualist and master art forger Gentle, whose life unravels when he encounters Judith Odell, whose power to influence the destinies of men is vaster than she knows, and Pie "oh" pah, an alien assassin who comes from a hidden dimension.

That dimension is one of five in the great system called Imajica. They are worlds that are utterly unlike our own but are ruled, peopled, and haunted by species whose lives are intricately connected with ours. As Gentle, Judith, and Pie "oh" pah travel the Imajica, they uncover a trail of crimes and intimate betrayals, leading them to a revelation so startling that it changes reality forever.

Modern day masterpiece.

What more is there to say, by and by. Beautiful. Emotional. Biblical. Love it, and spread its magic throughout this dominion.

As marvellous as I remembered...

I first read this back when 'book's were either hard or paperback, and upon opening this great doorstop of a book, within the first couple of pages I was fully committed to taking every step of Gentle and Pie-oh-Pah's through the magical and wonderful world of the Imajica...

Everyone longs for the miraculous, a glimpse of a Marvellous Magical land, a secret kingdom all their own. That the world's of the Dominion are so whole, complete and perfectly drawn that, after putting the story aside after a few hours of reading - or listening - you feel like you've just woken up out of a dream, a bit dazed, and regretful at having to leave this wondrous p lace, speaks volumes for the skill of Clive Barker's writing...

He's far and away one of the finest writers of fantasy, speculative fiction, call it what you like, of this generation, and a far, far better storyteller, creator of miraculous worlds and wonderful qcharacters that stay with you long after the book is finished, than one might suspect from a glance at his much more famous "Hellraiser" or "Books of Blood"...

Easily up there with Neil Gaiman, Tim Powers and Alan Moore on the summit of the imagination, in "Imajica" Clive Barker has created as huge, magnificent and epic a tale as you've ever read. And Simon Vance is, as ever, more than equal to the job of making this sprawling juggernaut of a tale and the strange, beautiful and grotesque, but never stereotypical, flat or dull characters come alive in every page...

Cannot recommend this Audible version of a wonderful book highly enough. If you never read another fantasy tale, or have never read one till now, I beg you to read "Imajica"... You WON'T regret it.

phenomenal

I have read this story over and over the past 17 years and it never gets old. I love the idea of the dominions and earth being cut off from the other lands. rich story well read. Although some of the accemts had changed from the start of the story compared to the end of the story he does a great job of distinguishing characters and although I finished this in record time if you put Simon Vance on low in your earbuds at bed time i defy you to stay awake. its awesome. he should do a sleep book. lik in all seriousness though he is not a boring narrator

A sprawling but self-contained fantasy epic.

A sprawling but self-contained fantasy epic. Has dated well too, both gender politics and LGBT are reasonably well represented (I imagine it rustled a few feathers at the time of release). Solid narration too.

imajica's no heaven...

Worth the read. While I have issues with the pacing and structure of the story, the way it is written (and read) is wonderful. Characters are nice and different, but have 0 agency. Some scenes are visceral but aren't of any consequence of choices. Everyone ends up exactly where they need to be with what ever magic / item / mcguffin they need handed to them the page before.

Epic

An immense story that could in less generous hands probably have been a three book trilogy. Indeed if it has a fault it is that it is so huge that one starts to forget where it has been and some of the minor characters get rather short shrift. Things which seemed of great importance become, in the scope of the overall story, somehow diminished. That said it is better than the majority of fantastic fiction - combining horror, fantasy, sex and religion in ways unexpected and ultimately satisfactory. You do owe it to yourself to experience this if you like Gaiman for example - Barker develops more as a writer across the length of this one book than Gaiman has in the last 15 years. If you've listened to other Barker then this is probably the pinnacle of his ideas, and you mustn't miss it. The reader is pretty good - not perfect since a lot of his voices do sound the same (all old men for example have one voice). Personally I think this is one better read first as a book but if you are sure you want an audio version, or you are experiencing it a second time, this version does the job.

Narrator it's excellent, very good choice for this book. I have read this book a few times so thought I would give the audio version a listen. Very good.

Fantastic in every way!

I thought the narrator’s performance was superb and makes the story spring to life in your ears! Best narrator of Clive Barkers work by a stretch.
