Summary

Sebastian:

He’s a shining star, I’m a black hole. Complete opposites. And just like our astronomic counterparts, there’s no way Marty’s light is ever going to brighten me. Black holes don’t let any light escape. They devour it all. And that’s what will happen to Marty if he doesn’t keep his distance from me. I want to warn him, but there’s a selfish part of me that can’t do it. Like a moth, I’m drawn to Marty’s light. I know I should stay away — for his sake more than mine — but I can’t.

A better man would do the hard thing and stay away. Not me. The fact that this time the easy way lines up with my self-centered desire to spend more time with him, is only a bonus. He doesn’t know that I’ve already declared this over in my head. Part of me is determined to give this a real go and not lose my chance with him because if I back out now and regret it later, it could be too late.

Which is worse? Missing my chance, or opening myself up to the agony I already know so intimately?

Marty:

Me: I know what I’m doing, and I know Sam’s not after anything serious. It’s fine. I can handle it.

Narrator: He could not handle it.

Some folks say I live in a dreamworld. It's partly true; I run a party planning business in the idyllic town of Snow Lake and I love every minute of it. But when I watch my friends partner up and look so happy, I hide my sadness. Nobody needs to know how deep that particular pit goes.

When Sebastian arrives in Snow Lake, I bring him a welcome basket, like I do for everyone. But when I actually take in that muscular frame and artist's mystique, I practically want to organize a parade complete with marching band and an interpretive dance about how much he turns me on. So what if he says he only wants a casual thing? A hookup is better than not getting my hands on that body. And besides, how can he not fall in love with me? I'm charming. I deserve love. Right? Right?

Really enjoyed

I really enjoyed this book and following Marty as he draws Sebastian back into the world after he loses his fiancé. Sebastian has a lot of baggage and history that he has work through and Marty helps him by involving him in the towns pawpaw event. Marty has a lot to do with the different events that he arranges but he also has to deal with an homophobic client who tries to scupper the event. Just when things are going well Sebastian’s manager and his fiancé twin turns up to guilt and manipulate him which causes problems.
Cam is a brilliant narrator and really brings the characters to life.

A great story and a brilliant narration

I didn’t know Ashton Cade or Cam Walker when I started listening to “Piñatas and Paintbrushes ”. The story is really well written and is told alternately from the point of view of Marty and Sebastian. I was captivated from the beginning and that was also because of the narrator, because Cam Walker did a really good job.

Marty is an absolutely adorable character who runs a party planning business. When the artist Sebastian moves to Snow Lake, he brings him a welcome basket and it starts to spark between the two. But Sebastian brings a lot of ballast from his past. And Marty is like a shining star in Sebastian’s darkness. But do these two really stand a chance? Or is Sebastian caught up with his past?
I really liked the story and I’m already looking forward to more stories from Snow Lake. It was fun to accompany Marty in his work and to follow the development of the protagonists.

Cam Walker has a great voice and a brilliant way of narrating the audiobook. He brought the characters to life and I really enjoyed listening to his voice. I’ll keep an eye on Cam Walker.

For me, “Piñatas and Paintbrushes” is one of my highlights in 2021 – a great story that was narrated brilliantly. And now I’m curious about more audiobooks from Snow Lake.
Highly recommend!!

Marty & Sebastian 💙💚

First off, I loved the narrator’s voice from the get go. Marty is the towns party specialist and newcomers greeter. He is sunshine and sweetness. Sebastian just came into town with his brooding and dark art. They are opposites but Mary’s light draws Sebastian out of his funk, until his manager drags him back down. It’s an engaging story and I enjoyed it from start to finish. I’d love to listen to the rest of the series.

Great addition

Ashton Cade did a super job with the story. Sebastian and Marty was great characters to know. You know its a good story when you want to strangle the baddy. Cam Walker did a good job with the narration. Can't wait to hear what happens next in Snow Lake.

Another great one!

Story: A haunted painter and a demon slayer disguised as a party planner. :D
This story, a new sweet small town story is an awesome addition to what is proving to be a great series! I love the couple introduced in this book as much as the previous ones. What is more, the supporting characters and the setting are a perfect compliment to the story, making it a wholesome picture. Eagerly looking forward to next volumes!
Narration: A really good performance supporting a great story.

Piñatas and Paintbrushes

Ashton Cade is a new author to me. This was a quick MM romance. It is the third book in the Hearts of Snow Lake, but can be read as a standalone. Sebastian is a brooding tortured artist that is new to town. Marty and Sebastian are instantly attracted to each other. The only thing that might get in the way is Sebastian's past. Cam Walker is a new narrator to me but he did a great job narrating.

Shadows and light romance!

Marty is a party organiser in Snow Lake and has the happy personality to match. Having lost his fiancé in a car accident years ago, Sebastian is the stereotypical solitary brooding artist who comes to Snow Lake to focus on his art. When he meets Marty, there may be light at the end of the tunnel. Ashton Cade has produced another compelling small-town romance, there’s lots of sweet moments offset by some angsty storylines. I like really like this style, the obstacles don’t miraculously disappear and the two MCs have to work for their HEA, but it’s not depressing. Cam Walker is a solid audio narrator, his voices are believable, and his emotion and pacing are pitch-perfect.

Piñatas and feelings! WOW!

I am a huge fan of this series and re reading every single book on it have become my favorite treat. Of course, I was so happy getting the opportunity to hear the audio version. The story about Sebastian and Marty is incredible! Interesting, sweet and emotional, full of the wonderful characters Ms Cade created in this book. First Marty, with his enjoyment of life and how he gave hope and happiness to every single person he encounters. Second Sebastian, who is so lost in his grief and pain that at the beginning I was afraid he'd never recover. Getting together was difficult and full of obstacles, but again, love is the answer to everything. I especially enjoyed the portrait of depression and duel not resolved the author showed us in so amazing detail in Sebastian's story, that you can feel his hopelessness and despair that crushed my heart, until finally he asked for help, healing slowly and finally accepting he deserves love. Mr Walker performance enhanced all these emotions and feelings with his wonderful voice and acting skills.I am sure I am going to be hearing this amazing book again and again enjoying the emotional story and discovering every time something new and amazing. Wow!

I liked this a lot.

Piñatas and Paintbrushes is book 3 in the Hearts of Snow Lake series but you can read it as a standalone with no trouble. I haven’t read the first two books and I never felt lost while listening to this one. This is the first book I’ve read by Ashton Cade and the first audiobook I’ve listened to by Cam Walker.

I think Cam Walker did a good job with the audiobook. His voice is really soothing and pleasant to listen to. The only reason I didn’t give this 5-stars was that I had a little trouble keeping track of who was speaking as the two MC’s voices weren’t different enough. The chapters alternated between characters, and the character name was stated at the beginning of each chapter, but when I got wrapped up in the story, I didn’t always remember whose chapter I was on. If I were reading, instead of listening, it would be easy to go back and check but not while listening.

The story itself kept me engaged the entire time I was listening. I felt bad for what had happened to Sebastian and just wanted to hug him. Marty was delightful and I loved his energy. I wanted to throw Sebastian’s manager out of a window!

I plan to continue on with this series.

A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
