What if the things we keep hidden say more about us than those we put on display?
We all have a random collection of the things that made us—photos, tickets, clothes, souvenirs, stuffed in a box, packed in a suitcase, crammed into a drawer. When Jarvis Cocker starts clearing out his loft, he finds a jumble of objects that catalogue his story and ask him some awkward questions:
Who do you think you are?
Are clothes important?
Why are there so many pairs of broken glasses up here?
From a Gold Star polycotton shirt to a pack of Wrigley's Extra, from his teenage attempts to write songs to the Sexy Laughs Fantastic Dirty Joke Book, this is the hard evidence of Jarvis's unique life, Pulp, 20th-century pop culture, the good times and the mistakes he'd rather forget. And this accumulated debris of a lifetime reveals his creative process—writing and musicianship, performance and ambition, style and stagecraft.
This is not a life story. It's a loft story.
Recorded on location with the author and featuring archival material, Good Pop, Bad Pop, is an intimate and immersive listening experience with an icon of British culture.

Happiness in book form
This is a lovely concept and a great way to hear about how Jarvis grew up and Pulp formed

having a sort-out never sounded so fun!
Literally, a rummage through the loft of Jarvis Cocker. He describes the items he's hoarded away over the years and tells the story behind each one that contributed to his life journey and musical success. If you're a fan of Pulp you'll love this

There is always a way out!
A fantastic story about endurance and sticking to your guns! For someone who also takes their time about things, this really struck a chord!

Wow! Loved it.
Thoroughly enjoyable. As a fellow musician of sorts, I could relate to various performing experiences. Jarvis has a very soothing voice. I think he should take up narrating books as a second career. I loved how the whole experience was put together. Is there a sequel in the works? Poised and ready to purchase.

Jarvis is a national treasure
He might live in Paris now or wherever, but to my mind he's a national treasure - for the UK generally and Sheffield in particular. This is the best thing I've listened to on Audible. Brought a tear to my eye to hear him describe how vibrant Sheffield was in the 80s, knowing the state it's in now. Anyway, cheers Jarvis!

Loved it
My first purchase on audible and I was pleasantly surprised to learn it was read by the author. Thoroughly enjoyed listening and remembering a lot of ‘the items’ from the era I grew up in.

Dreamy musings from the king of kitchen sink estate pop
How am I going to relax now it’s finished? A gentle spoken lullaby tale of one jumble sale nerd’s entry to the music space. One bubble gum tattoo at a time. Exacting. Rambling. Magnificent.

Finished in one sitting. Jarvis does you good
Easy listening, charm and richness that's our Jarvis. I lived in Sheffield for a while but you don"t have to to relate.

Does not disappoint
I listened to the abridged bbc radio 4 serialisation first and just had to listen to the full audible version. I can listen to Jarvis’s sonorous tones all day. Growing up in the 70s and 80s in Wigan so much of his story rang true and stirred memories of the punk and thatcher years, years that in my head where grey and drab but remembered by Jarvis as colourful and wondrous.
I love the way the audible book as been put together it’s almost like your looking over his shoulder trying to see what’s being uncovered next. It was a great idea to include a pdf of all the items mentioned and added another layer of interaction.
I hope there will be another instalment to while away some dull hours at work!
