Summary

The brand new edge-of-your-seat thriller from the author of the smash hit bestseller The Woman in the Window.

"I’ll be dead in three months. Come tell my story."

This is the chilling invitation from Sebastian Trapp, renowned mystery novelist, to his long-time correspondent Nicky Hunter, an expert in detective fiction. Welcomed into his lavish San Francisco mansion, Nicky begins to unravel Trapp’s life story under the watchful eyes of his enigmatic wife and plainspoken daughter.

But Sebastian Trapp is a mystery himself. And maybe – probably – a murderer.

Two decades ago, his first wife and son vanished, the case never solved. Is the master of mystery playing a deadly game? If so, who will be the loser?

And when a body surfaces in the family's garden, they all realize the past isn't buried – it's waiting.

I thought that it was very well translated to audio, and the different accents believable

I found some of the actions difficult to understand , otherwise I throughly enjoyed the story

Great descriptions

Good twist and lovely, unusual descriptions that are original and work well throughout. I looked forward to this book and was not disappointed.

Great storyline

While it’s far fetched, it gets away with it because it’s a great story told well.

I’m not often surprised but hey ho ….

Narration was excellent - apart from some English accents

Buckle up

It’s an extremely interesting story with nice character arc, but it’s just simply way too long. The author is particularly talented with words and is the pleasant to linger on the expressions. That makes the slow pacing a bit more bearable, but just a bit more. When all the twist and turns are in slow mo, it gets frustrating very quickly. There are quite a number of supporting characters, who clearly have a fascinating backstory, but were not explored. The main characters’ interaction with them were like lose ends that I find wanting.

Disappointing

Really wanted to like this. Waited eagerly for the plot twist at the end but it didn't live up to my expectations. I hated the accents of the reader. They did not sound English to me at all.

Not up to the 5 star reviews

For me it was ok but not as some reviews made out if you purchase this don’t expect something extraordinary

A proper mystery

A proper mystery that makes you want to go right back to the beginning to see the clues and how you missed them.

wow but not in a good way

Me thinks Mr Finns first book was a fluke. wishing for a book to come to an end is never a good thing.
Unfortunately that's over eleven hours of my life I won't get back. A scenic route to a very predictable end.
